Earwax, also known as cerumen, is a yellowish waxy substance secreted in the ear canal of humans and other mammals. It protects the skin of the human ear canal, assists in cleaning and lubrication, and also provides some protection from bacteria, fungi, insects and water.
Ear wax helps protect your ears against ear infections and other discomforts, but sometimes there can be a lot of wax buildup.
Most people don’t use Q-tips properly and wind up putting them inside their ears to feel “clean.” Big mistake! Not only is ear wax good for you, but putting a Q-Tip anywhere except for the outermost parts of your ear can be a big detriment to your health.
Remember, ear wax is generally good!
