Ten years ago, Elon Musk revealed his first master plan with Tesla Motors. It was to design, construct and sell three models of car; this plan coming to fruition in 2016.
Now he has set his sights set higher. By purchasing Solar City, a company he was on the board of, he has combined their solar panel construction with the Tesla home battery, the Powerwall.
He plans to seamlessly integrate rooftop solar panels into a “one ordering experience,” while at the same time develop a fleet of self-driving, electric buses and trucks. These would travel on solar power and greatly increase the efficiency of our infrastructure.
He also plans to allow people to let others use their self driving vehicle like a taxi when they’re not using it: all though a button on their phone. They can get paid for owning a Tesla; if used intelligently Musk points out that it “dramatically lowers the true cost of ownership to the point where almost anyone could own a Tesla.”
To recap; Tesla’s next Master Plan, from their website, is to:
Create stunning solar roofs with seamlessly integrated battery storage,
Expand the electric vehicle product line to address all major segments,
Develop a self-driving capability that is 10X safer than manual via massive fleet learning,
Enable your car to make money for you when you aren’t using it.
