Stephen Hawking and Larry King spoke 6 years ago… King spoke to Hawking again for Russia Today to see if there’s been any progress on the self-destruction front, to which Hawking kicked off by answering the first question: “Have things gotten any better or worse?”

“We certainly have not become less greedy or less stupid.” Stephen said that mankind is in danger of destroying themselves by greed and stupidity.”

For the second question Larry told Stephen: “You’ve been warning people about the danger of Artificial Intelligence. How seriously are the governments taking this warning?”

Hawking highlighted the ever increasing threat of artificial intelligence and the rise of the machines…

“Artificial intelligence has the potential to evolve faster than the human race. Beneficially AI could co-exist with humans.” But he went on to warn: “Once machines reach the critical stage of being able to evolve themselves, we cannot predict whether their goals will be the same as ours.”

And for the last question, Larry asked Stephen: “What scientific discovery have surprised even you over the years?”
