When we are in a relationship we keep thinking about the nature of it- whether it is serious or it is just a casual fling. Basically we keep trying to discern what kind of love it is. Don’t be surprised because there exists many kinds of love in this world. Your love for your best friend will be different than your love for your partner. You will never love all your partners in the same way.

Love itself is a mystery and trying to figure out what kind of love you feel for someone is even more mysterious. It is a task in itself and demands all your understanding and patience. It is often believed that we only fall in love with three people throughout our lives, and each of them is very significant.

Here are the three types of love that we experience in our lives:

1. The Fairy Tale Love

This type of love is exactly what it sounds like: a fairytale. You have come across this love in movies, books and television shows. This type of love represents the epitome of perfection. You aspire to find it at least once in your life.

However, it is not easy to find fairy tale in real life. What might look like a fairy tale love story could actually turn out be an ordinary one colored by our emotions. Fairy tale love looks great on paper, but it is a different case when it comes to reality.

2. The Unexpected Love

This type of love is unexpected. It hits you like a bullet – sharply and suddenly. It destroys all your preconceived notions about love, relationships and people. It makes you see the other side which you didn’t even know existed. Such a love seems like a trouble and doesn’t sound great.

The unexpectedness of it all overwhelms you because the connection you feel with the other person cannot be rationally determined. You feel that s/he truly understands you and loves you for who you are.

The unexpected love could be scary at first because the rush of feelings is inexplicable. If you truly love them and they return this love with equal vigor, then there is no reason for you to be scared. Go ahead with it!

3. The Toxic/Destructive Love

This kind of love is the most difficult love out of the three. It is the hardest relationship that you will go through because of its sheer toxicity. There is so much manipulation, drama and lying that works in a toxic relationship.

Such relationships are usually considered to be transformative. They could foster psychological growth by making you realize what you don’t want in a partner. It could also teach you about your won desires.
