Shambhala is the symbol of Heart Chakra, depicted as ‘eight-petalled lotus’. In the past few decades a lot of research has been done on the eastern philosophies and the traditions. Scientists were shocked as the results proved that many of the ideas discussed in the texts were rather very modern. The science and the Vedic knowledge have a lot in common.
From the beginning of 20th century, quantum physics has gained a lot of momentum and it is interesting to see its parallels with Vedic and Buddhist philosophy. You can see the relation with the example of Conundrum of consciousness and the concept of realm of existence. Many of the great scientists of the period of early scientific revolution like Newton and Nikola Tesla were greatly influenced by Eastern philosophy. It might sound strange but many of these scientists were mystics as well.
Dalai Lama once said:
“Broadly speaking, although there are some differences, I think Buddhist philosophy and Quantum Mechanics can shake hands on their view of the world. We can see in these great examples the fruits of human thinking. Regardless of the admiration we feel for these great thinkers, we should not lose sight of the fact that they were human beings just as we are.”
These strong connections between ancient knowledge and modern day science compel us to think twice before dismissing any of the claims of ancient philosophers. It is highly probable that they understood some things that we still do not know about.
Earlier there was this tendency in the intellectual society to accept the rights and to dismiss the wrongs of the ancient Greek philosophers and historians. Like Herodotus, whom we call the father of history, wrote some good accounts mixed with fantasy stories. We try to find right in that. But when it comes to eastern philosophers, who clearly were ahead of us in the ancient times, we tend to completely dismiss the claims based on the idea that they contain some things which seem out of the world. We term the philosophy as a ‘fantasy story’, even when there is increasing evidence that they might very well be all true.
One such intriguing concept is of the place ‘Shambhala’. Ancient Buddhist texts mention it as another world that exists within our own. Hindu texts also refer to this place as a hidden kingdom, which is very illusive. Dalai Lama, in a speech during the Kalachakra Initiations in 1985 mentions that:
“…Although those with special affiliation may actually be able to go there through their karmic connection, nevertheless it is not a physical place that we can actually find. We can only say that it is a pure land, a pure land in the human realm. And unless one has the merit and the actual karmic association, one cannot actually arrive there.”
Edwin Bernbaum, a renaissance man himself, wrote the book, ‘The way to Shambhala’ where he mentions that the place is round but is depicted as a lotus of 8 pallets because it represents the heart chakra. He believes that it exists not just in human realm within our body, but also in other dimensions.
A BBC Journalist, Michael Wood, describes it as a great kingdom lost somewhere in the vast Himalayas. It appears in the Kalachakra Tantra, which is the epitome of Buddhist Mahayana teaching. Michael talked to a number of senior Buddhist monks, one of them described it as:
The land of Shambhala lies in a valley. It is only approachable through a ring of snow peaks like the petals of a lotus … At the centre is a nine-storey crystal mountain which stands over a sacred lake, and a palace adorned with lapis, coral, gems and pearls. Shambala is a kingdom where humanity’s wisdom is spared from the destructions and corruptions of time and history, ready to save the world in its hour of need.
OK, Where is the evidence?!
Well, we do not know! Many relate Shambhala to the extraterritorial contacts. NASA astronaut Dr. Brian O’Leary said that, “there is abundant evidence that we are being contacted, that civilizations have been visiting us for a very long time.”
There are many people who claim to have experienced these extra territorial contacts.
Admiral Richard Byrd a high ranking officer in the United States Navy who received a medal of honour and was the very first man to fly over the South Pole, supposedly journeyed to the hollow Earth. He describes in his personal diary that he say a hole while flying over the North Pole and there he saw vegetation and lakes.
The difficulty in understanding the mystery of shambhala is that you cannot know completely about it unless you are called there.
