Dog, a Man’s Best Friend

Since child, through time, I owned five dogs. Followed by cruel destiny I lost all of them. Anyway, I do not want to narrate you a sad story of “how I lost all my dogs”, but how dogs demonstrate that they are a man’s best friend. Good friends are loyal and they will glue to you no matter what, even if they are not human. Dogs, on the other hand, are the most faithful creatures that prove their loyalty even if its life or death situation. There are six incredibly loyal dogs proving this by astonishing loyalty directed towards their owners.

LAO PAN’S DOG

When Lao Pan (68 years old) died in China November 2011, the only surviving member of the family was the small yellow dog. The loyalty was proven by Pan’s dog when the dog refused to leave the graveside after seven days without food. The villagers noticed that the loyal canine is not going to leave and started to bring food and water to the graveside – they even plan to build a kennel for the dog, but no further information.

HACHIKO

Even a movie came out in 2009 about the astonishing loyalty proving that dog, once again, is a man’s best friend.

In Tokyo 1924, every day when Hidesamuro Ueno left for his job, Hachiko would stand by the door and watch him leave. At 4 PM the Akita would arrive at Shibuya Station to meet his owner. After one year Ueno died of a stroke at work, but Hachiko continued to return to the train station at 4 PM every single day searching for his owner for 10 years! The stationmaster made the dog a bed at the station and began to leave him bowls of food and water through the years. Shibuya Station made a bronze statue of Hachiko.

TSUNAMI GUARD DOG

After the well known earthquake and tsunami hit Japan on March 11, the news were crowded with tragic news as well as astonishing stories of survival. One specific story gained reputation of how one dog stood and guard another injured canine. Afterwards, the rescuers were able to calm him and the injured canine leading them both to a veterinary clinic.

DORADO

The  terribly known 9/11 had one inspiring dog story. Omar Eduardo Rivera, a blind computer technician, was working on the 71st flood of the World Trade Center with his guide dog, Dorado. When the plane hit the tower, Rivera unleashed the Labrador retriever, ruffled his head, have him a nudge and ordered him to go. Knowing that it would take him a long time to leave the building he wanted his dog to survive the impact. On the way down, along with the massive crowd of people running for their lives, Dorado felt the dog nuzzling his legs. Omar, a co-worker and Dorado made it down out of the building through the stairs that took them almost an hour. After they were in a safe spot, the building ram-shackled and Omar says he owes his life to his loyal dog.

LADY

The golden retriever was 81 year old Parley Nichol’s constant accomplice for 6 years. After Nichol’s tragic sickness dementia developed, he began to lose his memory. When Nichols went missing, so did Lady. The police spent a week searching for them until they found them in a field. Nichols tragically died from heart failure, but Lady never left his side, staying alive by using the creek for water that was located nearby. Even though the loyal dog didn’t want to leave Nichols, his family took her away from the tragic scene and adopted the lovely golden retriever.

HAWKEYE

The Labrador retriever is confirmation that, as humans, dogs suffer from heartbreak. When the Navy SEAL John Tumilson’s funeral on August 19 took place, Hawkeye sauntered up to his owner’s coffin and dropped to the ground with a heavy audible breath expressing sadness. Tumilson’s cousin, Lisa, made this photo of the devoted dog and posted it on her FB page, and the sad photo went viral a.s.a.p.

Concluding that a dog is a man’s best friend we can surely take one as our guardian nowadays. Since the population of these “subspecies of gray wolf” is expanding, we can take one and nurse him at our homes (not if you are allergic to one).  My dog era have expanded my life and couple of times it gave me pretty good laugh. You never know, one day you may be “a happy ending story” thanks to your best friend.
