I cannot say I miss my old life because every year has its own beauty. Some might be harder than others, but that’s because we learn, upgrade, grow, and learn to live on our own.
Off the record, sometimes I miss the old technology. Back then, life was so full of real life, I mean, things really happened. Now we are all about Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and what so not. It’s been said that one like is like one clap, which makes the virtual likes like a modern applause.
Even though I’m always against disrespectful things such as staring at the phone while drinking coffee with your friends, yesterday I found myself in a situation to lurk around Instagram for a couple of minutes, instead of listening to my friend who was telling me a joke.
Technology grows, and we grow too, but growing has also a wrong direction. Most of the people (even my close relatives) are growing in the virtual direction. It’s easier to be technologically bound, than real-life bound, meaning to be here in present time.
I detached things that I miss the most from the “good old times.”
1. Nokia 3310
Do you remember that thing that fell down and got trembled by a bus, 10 giants jumped on it, got smashed by Mike Tysons fists, got in your toilet pee and shit for about 134 times and still rings? Yeah, we all had that Iron Man’s phone.
However, that phone was the toilet-playing-snake phone, the phone that could last for weeks without recharging, and the phone that cannot be destroyed, literally. Even if you throw in the middle of nowhere (Courage’s house) you still would find it under your pillow.
Not that I don’t like my IPhone, but life is too virtual now. There was time to socialize and there was time to read books and stuff. Now there’s no time for anything except virtual socialize. Even if you want to go do something, the phone reminds you that life is already gone (notifications from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat etc. …).
2. Tetris
Few weeks back, I was doing a project at a friend’s house and went to the toilet. Guess what I found on the washing machine? Yeah, Tetris was right there making me drool. Not that I wasn’t going to do “number 2” but that thing made it look like a whole eternity, just like finding your love.
Simple, turning blocks and trying to fit in the right place was the game I played back then. Now I’m building jetpacks, running away from zombies, throwing angry birds, and slicing some fruits. These games steal your life, not just couple of moments. It’s not building blocks anymore; even that Flappy bird steals my dream sometimes (and my patience, and my IPhone cover, and my friend’s life …)
3. Nintendo Game Boy
Couple of weeks back, Nintendo Game Boy was celebrating 25 years of its existence. This thing was a bit off the record and wasn’t something you can leave easily. Metroid, Legends of Zelda, Skate or Die, Golf, Mega Man, sounds familiar?
I think this mini Nintendo made it over the boundaries. Since then, the technology started growing and growing until our life was taken away with the new IPhones, Sony PC’s, Xboxes and Social Networks.
Am I the only one that thinks that since 2005 people started joining social networks and threw away all the games? I used to be a gamer and I even won a couple of Warcraft Dota tournaments (first 150 euros in 6th grade). At least games build up your logical part of your brain and watching retarded cats and dogs will build up your retarded part! Put away all those Social Networks (at least you are working on them) and buy a game boy!
Man vs. Machines
It’s literally humans versus machines. We are fighting against our own creation, and let’s be honest, who is forcing you to create all those social networks and getting bound to them? Your brain is forming a habit to throw you out of reality because it’s easier that way.
Who wants to face all the problems of realty? Yeah, running away from zombies or throwing angry birds is easier, but when you turn 60ty what are you going to remember? Ohh that time I threw the fat bird and destroyed all the blocks, MAN, that was legendary, I miss those times. (Come oooon)
I miss the times when I was playing hide and seek and the reason I miss it is because nobody is playing it anymore and I’m also going to have kids one day! Playing hide-n-seek is formulating your brains strategy part. How am I going to save those who are already found? How am I going to do that while the seeker protects his home base? All the answers to these questions will formulate you as a character, and maybe make you win the princess (ahh those old times).
I think the answer lies in dropping out social networks and going out enjoying real life. We are not chip’s in a computer, we are not machines, we are people and this is real life, it counts every second, and you should all feel that way. The history repeats itself. I hope that’s going to happen with hide and seek, marbles, soccer with cans and so on …)
Life ticks away every second, even when you read this you lose time, I hope it will turn to teach you something, or else you are wasting your time, go away, shoo.
