SELF-IMPROVEMENT

7 Habits All Grateful People Possess

Gratefulness is a wonderful virtue! It shows mutual recognition among the two individuals involved and produces a lot of positivity.

It is one thing the world needs a lot more, at this point. We all need to count our blessings and love the people who have helped us survive and enriched our beautiful lives!

In today’s time, with everyone being on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and I-don’t-even-know-what-else, even though they have many people in their friends list, yet they are actually disconnected from it all. I think people are forgetting what it really is about and slowly losing sense of the real purpose.

Gratitude is not something you feel exclusively for material things. It is more than that even though in today’s society it has lost it’s real definition. It is appreciation for much deeper beautiful things than just materialistic stuff.

Think of it as a mental exercise; it reminds you of the number of good things you have in your life, thereby, helping you cope with the worse things in life.
Once you start appreciating the things and people around you, you start making the world a much better place to be!

Want to start doing that?
Here are seven things that grateful people do and have!

1. They think about death, loss and grief from time to time

One must contemplate on the inevitable ending of all things good to truly appreciate their presence in their present. There is a proverb in Bangla that roughly translates to “you never know how important your teeth are till you lose them as an old man”.

And it makes sense; from love to a promising career, people tend to take things for granted until they lose them.

Meaning, thinking about the unavoidable finish line can put the better things in life into better perspective.

2. They appreciate things along the way

Grateful people tend to appreciate things more and attach more and more meaning to the smaller things that adorn the road to the larger ones.

In simpler terms, they stop to smell the roses on the way!

They don’t take the smaller things like a bird’s chirp or a sunny day for granted. And isn’t that beautiful?

3. The good things are gifts, not birth-rights

Entitlement is the enemy. People just normally assume that certain good things are just meant for them.

On the flip-side, naturally grateful people understand how fragile everything is and how easily good things can just be snatched away from them. As a result, they try to enjoy and appreciate the “presents” even more.

To the people who think the world owes them their lot: Once your privilege is taken away, you will be woken up from your fantasy.

4. They are grateful for people and relationships and not just material objects

They know that every goodbye might just be their last. So, because of that reason, they try and make every second they spend with their loved ones count!

People more than often make homes in other people. It is only the grateful ones who appreciate them.

5. They think outside the box

People who are grateful don’t just think what society tells them to think; this is because they realize early on that conforming is not EVERYTHING in life. They think about the true essence of life and relationships, the hidden purpose for everything, and what they really should be doing to be better human beings for themselves and their loved ones.

6. They keep it real

They don’t go around giving fake compliments to people. They keep it honest. They would tell you exactly what they are grateful for, no matter how small or insignificant the thing might be.

Fake compliments fall apart very quick and what is left for you is a hollow shell of disbelief that renders you incapable of telling the truth from the false. Better be careful around them.

7. They will never take advantage of you

By their very presence, grateful individuals will uplift your mood and create positive vibes around you. This comes from the fact that they don’t want to exploit you and their appreciation is heartfelt.
